Pionner Sports Club (vs) Linton Cobras

Despite losing their latest home game in the Manawatu Rugby league Premier One competition against Linton Cobras, the Pioneer Rugby League team not only played well but look to be a very good side. It was only a couple of unfortunate soft tackles and a barrage of tries late in the game that let the visitors cement a 44-30 win.

Pioneer started very well scoring two converted tries in the opening minutes to lead 12-nil but it didn’t take too long for Linton to get to grips with the very windy conditions and catch up to the local lads, who were missing a handful of players to other commitments. The tries kept coming as both sides stayed within a whisker of each other, but ultimately Linton scored two more in the 53rd minute, another in the 62nd, then another three late in the game to win the game. There were a total fifteen tries - six for Pioneer and nine for Linton.

Pioneer are having their best season and went into the game as one of the top four in the ten-team competition, and with a couple of home games still to play before the season ends, it is well worth popping down to watch them.
