Representative Bowlers Start Training
The region’s top lawn bowlers braved the cloudy and chilly conditions at Carrington Bowling Club on Saturday for their first training session together. Men’s selector Richard Anderson was keeping a close eye on his squad and will announce his team in a week or so for Wairarapa’s annual fixture against Kapiti in November. Women’s selector Tanya Wheeler joined her squad on the greens as they also had their first outing together as a team.

Richard says that they’ll probably only have a couple of these training sessions. “Everybody’s busy and these guys are playing every weekend anyway. The drills and skills are all up to the individual and they’ll be able to practice their position after we announce the teams.
“I said to the team beforehand that, you know, this is all about the masters, which is in March, it’s all about the juniors in February, March. We have the Kapiti one coming up and then we’ve got the hexagonal, then the octagonal, and then the inter centre which is the big one down south.”
The senior rep teams will play in the annual Wairarapa (vs) Kapiti fixture on Sunday 22nd November. The venue has yet to be announced.
