Two Wairarapa teams to contest Coastal Challenge
A combined Red Star/Lansdowne team and Greytown will play in this year’s Pre-Christmas Coastal Challenge cricket competition. Wairarapa Cricket Operations Manager Melissa Hansen said that just a few weeks ago things weren’t looking good for the competition with Manawatu reluctant to join in, “but after a bit of work they eventually decided it would be good preparation for the Furlong Cup.”
The competition begins on October 17th and both Wairarapa teams have drawn home games for the opening round; Red Star/Lansdowne at Queen Elizabeth Park oval and Greytown at Memorial Park. However because it is early in the season, those venues will need to be confirmed after officials check the viability of the grass wickets in a couple of weeks.
