Welcome

I've started writing this sports news section to accompany my sports photography. It adds another dimension to my work, it gives me a reason to photograph some of the sports that I wouldn't otherwise cover and, well, why not!

There are lots of interesting stories about sport and sports personalities in Wairarapa, and I've got a large list of ideas and potential subjects for me to work through. There are lots of activities and interesting people that I'd like to know about, and I figure there are probably many others that are also interested.

I expect this to start slowly - I don't envisage that I'll be overwhelmed with readers, but since I regularly have between 500 and 2000 or more unique viewers looking at my sports photos every week I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of hundred of them reading some of the articles. I'm not planning to write detailed previews or reviews of games or regularly publish results, I'll write more general reviews, some very short pieces to accompany a set of photos, more in-depth local sport related pieces and sports personalities, and a few opinion pieces.

It's probably been ten years since I wrote my last article for a newspaper or magazine so please forgive me if I'm a little rusty and make the odd spelling or grammatical mistake. I'll get better! Apart from the standard word processor spell checker I don't use a grammar checker program or any AI software for any part of my work.

You may also notice that I write a little differently than what you'll see in main-stream publications. I usually prefer to use first names rather than surnames, and I'll also sometimes break into writing from the first person - a bit of a no-no for most publications, but I want readers to understand that these articles are from my perspective.

I'm not sure whether to turn commenting on, so for now it's only possible for a few pieces. I'll assess that in a few weeks.
